The City of Bonita Springs is moving forward with significant enhancements to Riverside Park, aiming to improve its functionality and aesthetic appeal for residents and visitors alike. On September 18, 2024, the City Council approved a proposal from RVi Planning + Landscape Architecture, allocating $226,000 for final design, bidding, permitting, and construction services for the park's renovation. The final design was presented at a recent City Council meeting, marking a pivotal step toward the project's realization.
Key Renovation Highlights:
Artificial Turf Installation: The event lawn, a central feature of Riverside Park, has faced challenges maintaining natural grass due to high foot traffic from events and daily visitors. To address this, the lawn will be replaced with durable artificial turf capable of withstanding heavy use, reducing maintenance costs and ensuring a consistently vibrant appearance.
Live Oak Relocation: A majestic live oak currently situated in the center of the event lawn obstructs views of the stage during performances. Rather than removing this cherished tree, plans are in place to carefully relocate it to the northern end of the park, preserving its presence while enhancing sightlines for event attendees.
Expanded Walkways and Seating Areas: The renovation includes broadening the park's walkways to better accommodate vendors during events and improve pedestrian flow. Additionally, new paved seating areas will be introduced, providing comfortable spaces for relaxation and socialization that align with the updated downtown aesthetic.
These improvements are part of a broader initiative to revitalize downtown Bonita Springs, enhancing public spaces to foster community engagement and support local events. Riverside Park, known for hosting various events and serving as a communal hub, will greatly benefit from these upgrades, offering an enriched experience for all who visit.
The project is slated to commence following the completion of the final design and permitting phases, with construction timelines to be announced subsequently. Residents and visitors can look forward to a revitalized Riverside Park that seamlessly blends functionality with the natural beauty of Bonita Springs.
