Since its founding in 2015, Alligator Bay Distillery has gained a devoted following with its award-winning, traditionally crafted rums and whiskey. Started by brothers Alexander and Benjamin Voss, this Florida-based distillery brings authentic craftsmanship to each bottle with its motto, “Cane to Bottle.” Their rum, made from locally sourced black strap molasses from Clewiston, Florida, embodies a commitment to quality and locality. The Voss brothers' process, from using copper pot stills for double distilling to finishing with a copper pot column still, gives their rum an unmistakable, rich flavor that has captured attention beyond the Sunshine State.
The dedication to this craft has already paid off, with Alligator Bay’s White Rum earning the 2022 Silver Medal at the World Spirits Competition. Their whiskey, single-distilled in a copper pot column still, continues to grow in popularity, along with their other offerings. Alligator Bay Distillery has established a reputation for not only outstanding spirits but also a distinctive, local Floridian approach that celebrates the area’s resources and heritage.
After Hurricane Ian devastated Alexander's home, the Voss brothers decided to turn a difficult chapter into a new beginning. They are now excited to announce the next chapter for Alligator Bay Distillery: relocating from Punta Gorda to a fresh, welcoming location in Downtown Bonita Springs. The upcoming distillery and tasting room will be located on Old 41 Road, right across from Benson’s Grocery and near the old Dixxie Moon Cafe on the northern side of Riverside Park.
This new site will blend modern amenities with the charm of “Old Florida.” The design promises to embrace Bonita Springs’ historic and small-town vibe, which locals and visitors alike cherish. Just as they did in their Punta Gorda location, the brothers plan to offer a tasting room where guests can enjoy carefully crafted cocktails featuring their signature spirits.
The brothers expect to receive their Limited Development Order (LDO) in the coming weeks, with construction set to begin shortly afterward. Bonita Springs can look forward to enjoying Alligator Bay Distillery’s authentic, handcrafted spirits soon – the perfect place for locals and visitors to unwind and savor Florida’s best.
