Charlotte County has 422 DBPR licensed brick and mortar food service establishments, against 1,994 in Lee County and 1,212 in Collier [V, Florida DBPR licence extract, read 2026-09-04]. It is the smallest of the three Southwest Florida dining markets and the only one that grew last year. It also has the cleanest health inspection record of the three on every measure, and the most secretive menus: five of the fourteen Charlotte restaurants whose menus we read will tell you what grouper costs.
Nobody had counted. Every other Charlotte County dining page is a directory listing or a paid partner roster, and none of them will tell you how many restaurants there actually are, what a grouper dinner costs, or which waterfront venues you can genuinely reach by boat. We lead Domain Realty Group, the #1 team in Southwest Florida since 2012, and we have been Top 1% Real Estate Agents Nationally Since 2008, with over $2.5 Billion in Real Estate sold as a team. Reading the primary record before advising anyone is the habit that standing was built on, and it is the only thing that produces a page like this one.
So we went to the source. We tracked 422 licensed establishments through the state licence file, we tracked the Babcock Ranch count twice across nineteen days to be sure it had not moved, and we read fourteen Charlotte menus line by line rather than quoting a price range someone else published. Where the record contradicts itself, as it does at Fishermen's Village and at Laishley Park, we publish the contradiction instead of picking the tidier answer.
If you are weighing a move to Charlotte County rather than just planning dinner, call Jesse direct at (239) 898-6072. Dining is one input into that decision and this is the honest version of it.
Three facts, each measured against the state licence and inspection record rather than asserted, explain most of what a newcomer notices about eating in Charlotte County: it is the smallest of the three Southwest Florida dining markets and the only one that grew last year, it holds the cleanest health inspection record of the three on every measure we checked, and it is by some distance the most reluctant to publish what its food costs.
It is small and it is growing. Charlotte holds 422 of the region's 3,628 licensed brick and mortar food service establishments, roughly 12 percent [V, 2026-09-04]. In fiscal 2025-26 it issued 52 new food service licences against 39 or 40 the year before, an increase of 30 to 33 percent depending on which county derivation you use, and it was the only one of the three counties that grew while Lee fell from 347 to 296 and Collier from 105 to 88 [V, DBPR newfood_2526.xlsx and newfood_2425.xlsx, re-verified 2026-09-04]. That growth is consistent with post storm rebuilding plus the absorption of Sunseeker Resort and the Wellen Park edge [I].
It is clean. Charlotte County's DBPR licensed food service establishments averaged 0.57 high priority violations per inspection in fiscal 2025-26, against 0.78 in Lee and 0.83 in Collier. 7.0 percent of Charlotte inspection visits produced a warning, against 13.1 percent in Lee and 13.8 percent in Collier. Charlotte recorded 4 emergency orders in the fiscal year against Lee's 33 [V, DBPR fdinspi_2526.xlsx, 1,116 Charlotte visits across 522 distinct establishments, closed fiscal year 2025-07-01 to 2026-06-30, re-verified 2026-09-04].
We publish that as a county aggregate and we do not name any individual restaurant's inspection record. A county average is a useful thing for a buyer to know. A venue level violation is somebody's livelihood and it is not ours to broadcast.
It does not publish its prices. This is the part nobody writes down, and it is covered in its own section below.
Four items every kitchen in the county could serve, priced from the restaurant's own current menu, with the community you would be living in if you ate there regularly. The yardstick was fixed before collection: filet mignon, ribeye, grouper as a dinner entree, Caesar salad, and any priced signature cocktail. Prices read 2026-09-04 unless the row says otherwise.

How to read the Englewood rows, because this is where every other guide gets Englewood wrong. County attribution here starts with the DBPR licence county, not the mailing address and not the marketing geography. Chophouse285 sits on the Sarasota side of the Englewood line, so it is shown for context and excluded from every Charlotte figure below. Lock 'N Key is in Charlotte County, and its DBPR county field is wrong. An earlier version of this page said the question could not be settled. It can. Charlotte County Government's own address layer returns 2045 N Beach Rd as a Charlotte address, the US Census Bureau geocoder returns county FIPS 12015, an independent reverse geocode places the restaurant in Charlotte County, and the licence number itself, SEA1800065, is the Charlotte series. The same DBPR field is wrong for Waverly two doors up. A vendor's county field is a label. The parcel is the referent. Lock 'N Key is counted in every Charlotte figure below. For what it is worth to anyone else trying this, the Englewood ZIPs do not settle it either: 34223 splits 51 Sarasota to 14 Charlotte and 34224 splits 50 Charlotte to 1 Sarasota, so neither ZIP is pure and no ZIP rule is safe here.
Filet mignon. Across the ten restaurants with a printed filet price, the median is $45.95 and the range is $39.00 to $59.90. Across the nine whose Charlotte licence is confirmed, the median is $45.90 [I, recomputed from the verified prices above]. Restricting to the eight filets whose weight is printed and falls in the comparable 6 to 9 ounce band lifts the median to $47.90.
Caesar salad, the honest tier signal. Twelve restaurants, median $14.50, range $11.99 to $17.80. The eleven whose Charlotte licence is confirmed give $14.00. The Caesar is the most useful cross county comparator we have, because it is the one item with a healthy sample in all three counties and no sourcing, sizing or market price confound: a median of $16.00 in Collier, $14.00 in Charlotte and $11.95 in Lee [Lee figure provisional, see the caveat below].
Grouper. Five printed prices, $32.00, $32.00, $35.50, $38.90 and $46.90. Five is still too thin to publish as a median and we are not going to. The prices are published individually and the refusal is published as the finding.
Cocktails. Three of fourteen restaurants publish any priced cocktail at all.
Two honesty notes on the cross county comparison. The Collier sample is fine dining only by construction, so a raw county against county median measures the sampling as much as the market. And the Lee figures are provisional, pattern extracted from an August 2026 file rather than freshly read, and they count priced lines rather than restaurants. On the evidence in hand, Charlotte and Lee are not separated. Do not read this table as "Charlotte is the cheap county", because it is not what the numbers show.
The community context column is the reason this table exists. A restaurant review site can price a filet. It cannot tell you that the $32 grouper is the one you reach by boat from a Cape Haze dock, that the $59.90 filet is fifteen minutes from a Rotonda West villa, or that the closest priced Caesar to a Babcock Ranch front door is $13.00 at Founder's Square. That column comes from our own community pages and it is the part a food blog structurally cannot produce.
If you are weighing Punta Gorda Isles against Burnt Store Marina, or Babcock Ranch against Rotonda West, dining is a small part of a much larger decision and one of the few parts nobody gives you straight. Babcock Ranch has six licensed food service establishments holding 378 seats, and the town's biggest dining rooms are club amenities rather than restaurants. That is the kind of number this page exists to publish. Every figure here came out of licence files and menus we read ourselves rather than out of a directory, because we live and work in this market. If you are selling, start with a Charlotte County home valuation, or call Jesse direct at (239) 898-6072. If you are buying, here is how we represent buyers in Southwest Florida, or call Marc at (239) 287-5873.
This is the most useful and least comfortable thing we know about dining here, and it is the finding that took the longest to accept: Charlotte County restaurants systematically decline to publish their prices. Only five of the fourteen Charlotte menus we read line by line print a grouper price at all. Five print Market Price and no number, and five carry no grouper on the menu whatsoever, which means the county's signature fish is effectively unpriced in public.
Of the fourteen Charlotte area restaurants whose menus we read across two extraction passes:
Barely more than one Charlotte restaurant in three will tell you what grouper costs.
The Lighthouse Grill at Stump Pass is a 184 seat waterfront restaurant at a marina channel marker in Englewood, on the Charlotte side [V, DBPR licence, 260 Maryland Ave, Englewood, Charlotte County]. Its current menu, revision code REV R6197954, created 2026-01-05, prints Market Price for the grouper entree, the grouper sandwich, the grouper Reuben, the grouper tacos and the grouper salad topping, and again for oysters by the half dozen and the dozen, for snow crab at three clusters and at five, and for the catch of the day. Nine Market Price cells on a single menu [V, menu PDF read 2026-09-04].
Everything else on that menu is priced to the penny. Mahi entree $26.99, blackened redfish $24.99, fish and chips $21.99, Caesar $15.99, baby back ribs $21.99, sides $4.99. The kitchen is not hiding its prices. It is hiding one price, on the fish everyone came for.
In Collier County, nine restaurants publish a grouper price in a $44 to $59 band, and the corpus concluded there that grouper is the best single item proxy for a Naples restaurant's true tier. In Charlotte, grouper is not a price proxy. It is a price refusal. That inverts the method one county south.
Two practical consequences.
First, budget for the fish separately. If you are moving from a market where menu prices are menu prices, a Charlotte County dinner bill is less predictable than the printed menu suggests, and the variance sits almost entirely in the seafood.
Second, the thinness is the market, not the research. Charlotte reads as a thin dining market in every online source, and part of the reason is simply that its restaurants publish less than Lee's and Collier's do. Three restaurants printing MKT for grouper, one printing MKT across seven catch species, one printing no food prices at all, and one whose entire priced menu sits behind bot protection is not a gap in anybody's homework. It is how this market operates.
A question as ordinary as "how much is grouper in Punta Gorda" currently has no answer anywhere on the internet, because the restaurants do not publish one. The five prices above are, as far as we can find, the only assembled answer that exists.
Three of the fourteen Charlotte restaurants whose menus we read publish any priced cocktail at all, and what those three share is more interesting than the fact that the other eleven stay silent. Not one tiered signature cocktail list was found anywhere in Charlotte County, which is the opposite of the pattern in Naples, where a tiered list is close to standard at the same price point. Charlotte prices cocktails flat, and that turns out to say something about the market.
Rum Bay Restaurant on Cape Haze prints ten signature cocktails at a single flat price of $11.75: the Rum Bay Smash, Bayside Cuba Libre, Sunburn, Shark's Tooth, Malibu Typhoon, Tropical Splash, Island Menace, Hurricane, Marker 9A Mojito and Jamaican Me Crazy. The Malibu Bucket is $16.25 [V, first party menu, read 2026-09-04]. It is one of only two complete priced signature cocktail lists recovered anywhere in the county across two passes.
Riviera Bar and Grill in Punta Gorda Isles publishes the other one, twelve specialty drinks, three martinis and three old fashioneds, every one priced, in a narrow $10 to $12 band [V, menu images, but those images were uploaded in February 2025 and are up to eighteen months old, so treat the figures as indicative and call before you count on them]. The Lighthouse Grill's priced cocktails run $13 to $17 [V, cocktail menu dated April 2026].
For contrast, one Naples restaurant runs a single signature list from $14 to $34, a 2.4 times internal range. Charlotte County bars price flat or nearly flat. Naples bars price in tiers. That is a structural difference in how the two markets sell a drink, and it is the sort of thing you notice on the second visit and never see written down.
Charlotte Harbor is the second largest estuary in Florida and it is the reason dock and dine works here at all. It is also where the most common published error about this county lives, so read the first paragraph before you plan a boat trip to dinner.
As of the most recent read, Fishermen's Village Marina is not renting slips. The marina's own notice reads that the fuel dock is open and that slip rentals are not yet available while it awaits repairs from hurricane damage [V, first party, read 2026-08-15]. The marina's own social channel independently states there is no dock space available for short or long term dockage, and Waterway Guide carries no transient dockage until further notice [V].
What does exist: the fuel dock, and over 300 feet of courtesy dock on the southwest side of the wharf for daily visitors [V, Waterway Guide marina text, read 2026-08-15]. That courtesy dock is the best free dock and dine offer in Charlotte County and it is barely publicised. It is also first come, first served, so it is a plan B and not a reservation.
We do not publish a slip count for Fishermen's Village, because the marina publishes no exact number and the secondary sources disagree with each other. We do not publish a maximum vessel length, because the marina's own page says 120 feet in the body copy and 60 feet in its meta description. On depth we publish the range, not the average: dockside depths run from about 7.5 feet down to 3.5 feet at mean low water. The 3.5 foot figure is the one that will ground a boat.
Call ahead. This section has a shorter shelf life than anything else on this page and is re-pulled after every named storm.
Harpoon Harry's Dockside Dining and The Captain's Table both closed on 2025-05-26 on a failed lease, and neither has reopened anywhere [V]. The Captain's Table space was taken to the shell to become Latitude 26, which is open [V, property Dine page, read 2026-09-07]. Castaways, the name attached to the former Harpoon Harry's space, is still listed by the property as coming soon and holds no food service licence at 1200 W Retta Esplanade [V, property Dine page and DBPR licence file, both read 2026-09-07]. Both entities were filed on Sunbiz in July 2025, so neither is long established [V]. Aggregator listings still carry the old names, which is why this paragraph exists.
The property's own Dine page and the state licence file for 1200 W Retta Esplanade disagree with each other in both directions, and the disagreement is the useful part.
Marketed by the property [V, first party, read 2026-09-07]: Village Brewhouse, Center Court (the Brewhouse outdoor bar), Sunset Beach Club, Leroy's Fish Shack (open), Latitude 26 (open), The Islands PG (new, Chef David McCleery), and Castaways (coming soon).
Licensed by the state at that address, 8 licences [V, DBPR, read 2026-09-07]: Harborside Coffee and Creamery (L28), Islands (#47) plus a mobile unit, Latitude 26 (A55), Leroy's Fish Shack (J33-35), Simply Sweet (Ste 50), and one single licence covering Village Brewhouse and Sunset Beach Club together (G-37) plus its food truck.
So two marketed names share one licence, two licensed venues are not on the Dine page at all (Harborside Coffee and Creamery, Simply Sweet), and one marketed name holds no licence (Castaways, which is consistent with coming soon and is the correct reason not to count it). Anyone counting "restaurants at Fishermen's Village" will get a different answer from the property, from the state and from any aggregator, and none of the three is wrong. We publish the roster and the gap, not a count.
Cass Cay Restaurant and Bar sits on the basin at Safe Harbor Burnt Store, which publishes 525 total slips with 30 transient, 100 foot maximum length, 8.0 foot approach and 8.0 foot dockside depth, diesel but no gas, VHF 16 [V, Waterway Guide, read 2026-08-15]. Visiting boaters are welcome with advance arrangements. That is the only restaurant in this entire three county research set with a stated advance notice requirement, and it is the single most useful sentence a boater can read before running down there.
Riviera Bar and Grill has its own dockage in the Punta Gorda Isles canals and publishes coordinates for boaters, and its own page says plainly that yes, it can accommodate your boat [V, first party]. That is a marketing claim and not a length limit. No slip count, no depth and no published bridge clearance for the PGI canal system exists in this dataset. Do not run that leg on a tall boat without checking it yourself.
Laishley Crab House markets dockage right behind the restaurant with no caveat. The municipal marina it depends on is run by the City of Punta Gorda, and the City's own published information does not agree with itself.
What the City's Municipal Marina page publishes [V, first party, ci.punta-gorda.fl.us, read 2026-09-07]: capacity for 142 vessels year round, up to 172 during certain authorised community events, plus a fishing pier and a public boat launch. Rental inventory of 94 slips, 12 commercial and 42 moorings. A live 2026 rate card: $2.50 per foot daily, $11.00 per foot weekly, $17.00 per foot monthly, $16.50 per foot per month semi-annual, $12.00 per foot per month annual, all plus 7% state sales tax. Liveaboard adds $100 per month, electric is $5.00 metered at the slip. Minimum 20 foot boat length, and commercial adds a three month minimum term. 90% of slips must stay first come, first served, a condition of Sovereignty Submerged Land Lease No. 080000095. The Community Room is currently unavailable for rentals.
Two conflicts, and we publish both rather than pick a winner.
We do not assert that this marina is open, and we do not assert that it is closed. Anyone planning a boat trip to dinner here needs to know that the operator's own published information is inconsistent, which is more useful than either answer would be. Dockmaster (941) 575-0142, [email protected]. Call before you go, and ask about the slip count as well as availability.
A boater can run Safe Harbor Burnt Store to Fishermen's Village to Laishley, roughly 11.2 nautical miles in a straight line [I, computed from published Waterway Guide coordinates], and can continue south on the Intracoastal to Cabbage Key at mile marker 60 and Boca Grande Marina without leaving the waterway. To reach Naples or Marco Island by water from Charlotte Harbor you have to go offshore. That is a real constraint and no competing dock and dine list states it.
The county tourism directory's "On The Water" category is a view category, not a dockage category. At least eight Charlotte County venues enter the boat up conversation solely because they appear on that page, and none of them has verified dockage. Two more names surface only inside a Yelp "dock and dine" search, which is a search artifact and not evidence of a dock. Stump Pass is a known shifting inlet and we have no verified controlling depth for it, so we publish none.
Downtown Punta Gorda is the most walkable restaurant district in the three counties, and unlike most claims of walkability it can be checked against a street grid. The core runs along West and East Marion Avenue and Retta Esplanade, with the numbered cross streets connecting them.
The densest block in the county. River City Grill at 131 W Marion Ave and Italia at 127 W Marion Ave are two doors apart and are the same licensee, River City Grill Inc, which the licence record confirms on its face [V, DBPR, read 2026-09-04]. Ortigia Cucina and Bar at 212 W Marion Ave and Leroy's Southern Kitchen and Bar at 201 W Marion Ave Suite 116 face each other across the street.
One nice thread for anyone who eats their way down this block: Ortigia's own menu credits its Polpettine to "Carmelo's famous meatball recipe", and Carmelo's is four minutes away on Retta Esplanade. The two carry different licensee entities, so we record a shared lineage and not a shared owner [V on the two licences, I on the lineage].
The Perfect Caper at 121 E Marion Ave and The Celtic Ray Public House at 145 E Marion Ave [V, DBPR, read 2026-09-04]. The Perfect Caper is the county's long standing fine dining room and its chef has been repeatedly recognised by the James Beard Foundation. We do not publish a count of those recognitions, because the sources disagree on whether it is seven or eight and on whether the correct word is nominee or semifinalist. The Foundation's own ladder is semifinalist, then finalist, then winner, and the press routinely calls semifinalists nominees. We would rather say less and be right.
Carmelo's Italian Ristorante at 321 Retta Esplanade [V]. West along the water, Fishermen's Village at 1200 W Retta Esplanade carries Latitude 26, The Islands PG, Leroy's Fish Shack and Village Brewhouse among others, and Punta Gorda gained a 150 seat restaurant there in the three weeks to 2026-09-04 when Leroy's Fish Shack licensed at 1200 W Retta Esplanade [V, DBPR licence delta].
Laishley Crab House at 150 Laishley Court, on the Peace River waterfront beside the municipal marina and park [V].
No high end sushi and no upscale steakhouse inside the downtown radius. The nearest serious steak is across the river in Port Charlotte [I]. Downtown Punta Gorda's own street grid holds the county's only genuinely walkable restaurant row, and it is small enough to walk end to end.
The Port Charlotte side of the harbor is the county's largest market by a wide margin: 224 DBPR licensed brick and mortar food service establishments and 27,078 licensed seats, against Punta Gorda's 126 and 14,369 [V, read 2026-09-04]. It splits into five clusters: the US 41 chain wall, the Kings Highway and I-75 exit 170 corridor, Murdock and the Town Center, El Jobean on the Myakka, and Deep Creek and Harbour Heights.
Sunseeker Resort Florida Gulf Coast, Curio Collection by Hilton, sits on more than 22 waterfront acres at 5500 Sunseeker Way in Charlotte Harbor, with 785 guest rooms. It opened in December 2023 at a build cost variously reported as roughly $700 million to $720 million [V]. Allegiant Travel Company sold it to Blackstone Real Estate for $200 million, announced 2025-07-07 and closed in September 2025, and it was reflagged to Hilton's Curio Collection and renamed from Sunseeker Resort Charlotte Harbor [V]. Pyramid Global Hospitality operates it as of August 2026 [V].
The dining line up is not what the launch coverage says it is, and this is the part no other page carries.
A small corroborating detail worth having: the current Vista Point menu still lists a Maury's Chopped Salad at $17.00 and Maury's Caesar dressing, named after the retired steakhouse [V, read 2026-08-15].
On the outlet count, we state which number we are using and as of when. The resort's own overview page claims more than 15 restaurants and bars; Hilton's release claims 16 concepts including a 25,000 square foot food hall; Forbes and the Charlotte Sun both reported 20 at launch in 2023 [V, all three]. All three are defensible on different dates and counting methods, which is exactly why a bare number without a date is worthless.
Here is the number none of them publishes. As of 2026-09-07, Sunseeker Resort Owner LLC holds 21 food service licences across 5350, 5400, 5500, 5550 and 5600 Sunseeker Way: 19 permanent food service with seating and 2 without [V, DBPR licence file, read 2026-09-07]. That is not a count of restaurants a guest can visit, and the gap runs three ways.
STRETTO and one as STRETTO ITALIAN CHOP HOUSE, so a naive licence count double counts a single room. Two marketed outlets, Vista Point and the Aileron Aviators Club, were not matched to a Sunseeker Way licence in this pass. Aileron sits at the golf club on a separate address. Neither is published as a component of any count here. And we publish no claim about which name is trading in the Stretto room: the resort's own page still carries "Maury's dining area" as the image alt text on that tile and OpenTable still lists Maury's, so we say only that the resort's current Eat and Drink page presents Stretto Italian Chophouse there, as of 2026-09-07.
Harbor Yards Food Hall publishes 10 concepts by name: Kinderhook Raw Bar and Crab Co., Arezzo Craft Pizza Kitchen, Saddle Creek Grill, Taqueria Puerto, Daikon Asian Kitchen, Copper Cask Backyard Beer Garden, Brick and Daisy Cocktail and Wine Bar, Riverfront Roast, Sweet Shine Patisserie and Dessert Bar, and Charlotte Parlor Gelatos and Crepes [V, first party, read 2026-09-07].
Sunseeker is the single largest dining development in county history and it added a large block of rooms in one stroke on the Charlotte Harbor side. It did not replace what the harbour lost. Hurricane Charley's, on the Charlotte Harbor bank, is gone, and it took the only non Sunseeker waterfront dining on that bank with it [I]. The Charlotte Sun reported in July 2025 on a net loss of established eateries countywide, driven by cost inflation, softening spend on dining out and unfavourable sites [V], and reported Hurricane Milton in October 2024 as nearly six times more destructive in Charlotte County than Ian in 2022 [V].
So the honest reading is that Charlotte County simultaneously grew its licence count and lost independent operators. Both are true, they are measuring different things, and only one of them is good news.
North Port, Wellen Park, Venice and CoolToday Park are in Sarasota County. Nav-A-Gator and Lake Suzy are in DeSoto County. Deep Creek and Harbour Heights carry Punta Gorda 33983 mailing addresses but are in Charlotte County. Every guide that treats the Port Charlotte mailing area as the county gets at least one of these wrong.
Babcock Ranch has exactly 6 DBPR licensed food service establishments holding 378 licensed seats [V, DBPR licence extract, measured twice nineteen days apart with the same result, most recently 2026-09-04]. The six are Slater's Goods and Provisions at 86 seats, Square Scoops Coffee and Creamery at 30, Pi Local at 49, M'Xuma Tacos Mexican Grill at 160, Five Guys at 45 and Carvel at 8.
That is a small number for a town of Babcock Ranch's ambition, and it is the number a buyer actually needs.
Five further licensed dining operations sit in ZIP 33982 under a Punta Gorda census city, and they are the golf and amenity rooms: Lake House at Babcock Ranch at 220 seats, Oar and Iron at 235, Enclave at 274, Babcock National at 150 and Gator Shack at 66 [V, DBPR]. The town's largest dining rooms by seat count are HOA and club amenities, not independent restaurants. No builder page will tell you that. It is not a criticism of the town, it is simply how a master planned community's food and beverage grows in.
Founder's Square carries Slater's Goods and Provisions, open daily 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM, breakfast until 11, lunch from 11, with a full bar and a Friday to Sunday outdoor bar [V, first party, read 2026-09-04]. Slater's is also the only Charlotte menu across both extraction passes that came out of a PDF with zero extraction risk, so its prices are the most reliable in the county: Caesar $13.00, cheeseburger $15.00, mahi sandwich $18.00, 16 inch margherita $19.00, ten wings $17.00 [V, read 2026-09-04]. Square Scoops is next door at Suite 110. The Lakehouse Kitchen and Bar is the lakefront sit down room on Founder's Square, confirmed operating in 2026 [V]. Oar and Iron Raw Bar and Grill at The Shoppes at Yellow Pine is the newest and highest ceiling kitchen on the ranch [V].
The B Street food and beverage line up has no published opening dates. Ten food and drink names have been announced there and not one carries a date, so none of them can be promised. Treat any Babcock Ranch tenant list older than a few months as unreliable, because this roster turns over faster than any other in the county.
No fine dining. Nothing above roughly the upper casual band anywhere on the ranch, and no chef driven tasting room. Residents drive 25 to 35 minutes west to downtown Punta Gorda for that [I]. No coastal waterfront: Lake Babcock is the only water. And the Yellow Pine plaza skews to national chains, five of seven food tenants.
This is the most storm battered restaurant market in the region and one of the most interesting, and it is the one where every competing page gets the geography wrong. The county line runs through the middle of it, so an address with an Englewood mailing name may sit in Charlotte County or in Sarasota County, Boca Grande is mostly Lee County rather than Charlotte, and Rotonda West, Cape Haze and Placida are Charlotte despite being marketed as though they were somewhere else entirely.
Englewood is unincorporated and split between Sarasota County to the north, including the Dearborn Street historic downtown, and Charlotte County to the south, including most of Placida Road and the Englewood Beach end of Manasota Key. The line dates to 1921, when both counties were created [V]. Every address in the area carries an "Englewood, FL" mailing name regardless of which county collects the taxes, which is why buyers, tax bills and restaurant guides all end up confused.
What that means for this page. We have the Charlotte County licence file and we do not have a Sarasota one. So we can verify that a restaurant is in Charlotte County, and we cannot use the same route to prove that one is not. Where a venue does not appear in the Charlotte file we say so and stop, rather than reassigning it across a line we cannot test.
Dearborn Street and Olde Englewood Village are Sarasota County [V], and so is the northern portion of Manasota Key toward Blind Pass. Manasota Key Road itself reopened on 2026-01-13, and Sarasota County called that reopening temporary because of ongoing repairs [V].
Boca Grande holds 14 DBPR licences on the Lee County side and 2 on the Charlotte side [V, read 2026-09-04, unchanged in three weeks]. Gasparilla Island is mostly Lee County, and the island's best known hotel dining is Lee County dining. Charlotte's two Boca Grande licences carry 160 seats between them. We count them here and we do not count the other fourteen twice.
That said, the county line is not a wall. People in Rotonda West, Cape Haze, Placida and Grove City routinely cross to Boca Grande for dinner, roughly twenty minutes, and any honest guide for those communities has to say so [I].
Placida holds 5 licensed brick and mortar establishments and 680 seats, Cape Haze 2 and 180 seats, and Rotonda West 8 and 766 seats [V, read 2026-09-04]. Rum Bay Restaurant is licensed to Cape Haze, not to Placida and not to Don Pedro Island, despite four different geographies circulating for it across its own site and the aggregators [V]. All four sit inside Charlotte County, so nothing is at risk except your ability to find it.
Named and licence confirmed on this side of the county: Placida Grill at 5855 Placida Rd Unit 100, Hideaway at 5855 Placida Rd #306, Lighthouse Grill at Stump Pass at 260 Maryland Ave, Farlow's On The Water at 2080 S McCall Rd, Magnolias on the Bay at 2395 N Beach Rd, Smokin Jerry's Tiki Bar and Grill at 15001 Gasparilla Rd in Placida, and Lipinski's at 3745 Cape Haze Dr in Rotonda West, which holds the address outright with 150 seats [V, all DBPR, read 2026-09-04].
Magnolias on the Bay's own site header reads that it is on Manasota Key. Its licence address is 2395 N Beach Rd, Englewood, ZIP 34223, county Charlotte [V]. Manasota Key straddles the line, so the marketing geography is not the county. The licence settles it, and the licence says Charlotte. It also prints the county's most expensive verified filet at $59.90 and its most expensive verified grouper at $46.90.
A standing rule first, because it governs everything in this section: private club dining rooms are a real estate amenity fact, not a consumer dining recommendation. Nothing below is a suggestion that you can go and eat there, and none of these rooms is open to the public. They matter to a buyer for one reason only, which is that a club dining room attached to a community changes what living there is actually like, and the state licence file is the only place that records how many of them exist and how large they are.
Southwest Florida's bundled and semi private clubs publish reciprocal dining lists, season rosters of other clubs where their members may book. Across four dining programs covering 154 documented reciprocal dining arrangements, the only Charlotte County entries are Babcock National and Babcock National at Webbs [V, read 2026-09-04].
Seminole Lakes, Heritage Landing, Riverwood, Kings Gate, Deep Creek, Twin Isles, St Andrews South, Burnt Store and Rotonda appear on no dining reciprocal roster found. Charlotte County is almost entirely outside the network. That is a real structural difference between the Charlotte club market and the Lee and Collier club market, and it is not written down anywhere else.
One Charlotte cross reference does run the other way: a Naples club's 2026 roster names Maple Leaf in Port Charlotte, Webbs Reserve at Babcock Ranch and Rotonda Golf and Country Club [V], so the reach exists, it is just not reciprocated outward.
A long reciprocal list signals an outward facing, value conscious bundled club. No reciprocal list at all signals a genuinely closed club, which some buyers want very much and most have no way to identify. The rosters are public documents. Read together they are a privacy gauge, and it is one nobody currently hands to buyers.
Two Charlotte clubs whose dining nobody had been able to describe:
Seminole Lakes Country Club, Punta Gorda. The club's own dining page returns a 404 and no first party dining page exists, so a prior pass could only guess that dining there might be seasonal and golfer focused. The licence record settles it: a 190 seat permanent food service licence at 26200 Stillwater Circle, inspected 29 July 2026, in the deepest part of the off season [V]. That is a year round trading operation [I on the year round reading]. The licence carries no brand name, so we publish none. Writing "unknown" is better than inventing a restaurant name.
Heritage Landing, Punta Gorda. Three separate licences at three street numbers: Club House 250 seats at 14601, Tiki 150 seats at 14591, and Golf Club 10 seats at 14611, all inspected 31 July 2026 [V]. The pool cafe and the Tiki are two operations, not one. And the Master Association operates the Club House and the Tiki while a separate entity, Heritage Landing Golf Club Inc, operates the golf outlet, which is a governance fact with a dining consequence: access rules can legitimately differ between them [I]. The formal dining room's brand name is not on the licence and we do not publish one.
Isles Yacht Club in Punta Gorda Isles is members and guests only, with a formal dining room seating up to 250, a grill room and bar, and the Commodore's Grill at about 60 [V]. Its full membership carries reciprocal boating and dining privileges at more than 700 clubs nationally, which is the single widest reciprocal reach of any club in this county [V]. St. Andrews South Golf Club regular golf members hold reciprocal use of the Isles Yacht Club dining room, marina and tennis courts [V].
Charlotte County's seasonal story is genuinely different from Collier's, and the difference is a finding rather than a gap. Seasonal closure is real and datable in Collier, softer in Lee, and mostly absent in Charlotte. Charlotte's pattern is contracted weeks, not closure.
The Grill At 1951, 1951 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte. Closed for summer and renovations and explicitly not hurricane related, reopening September 10, 2026, with fall hours of dinner 4:30 to 9:00 PM Tuesday to Saturday [V, first party, verified live 2026-09-04]. The venue's own site gives two start dates for the closure, June 28 in one place and July 1 in another, so we say "closed from late June". This is the single nearest dated reopening in the whole three county calendar.
The Boatyard at Manasota Key Resort, 985 Gulf Blvd. The page's only heading reads closed for the season, page last modified 2026-05-04, with no return date [V]. A separate record shows it opening in February and running a short spring. Do not treat it as open.
Rum Bay Restaurant posted a first party dated contraction: closed on Mondays from August 17 through September 28 [V, read 2026-09-04]. That is the Charlotte signature in one line.
At Sunseeker, mind the day rather than the season: Stretto is dark Monday, The Stadium Club is dark Tuesday and Wednesday, and Vista Point runs Friday to Sunday only [V, read 2026-08-15].
At Kings Gate Golf Club in Port Charlotte, the club's own summer hours graphic closes the dining room at 5:00 PM on Monday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, which means there is no on site dinner option in the community on four evenings a week in the off season [V].
Charlotte's restaurant volatility is genuine and it is mostly not seasonal. Ian in September 2022, Helene in September 2024 and Milton in October 2024 between them did more to this county's dining map than any summer ever has. A closed sign in Charlotte County is more likely to be a repair than a season, which is the opposite of the assumption a Naples visitor arrives with.
This is the section a dining guide written for tourists cannot produce, because it requires knowing both the restaurant map and the housing map at the same time. Where you buy in Charlotte County decides what you can walk to, what you can reach by boat, and how far you drive for a serious meal, and those three answers vary more across this county than across either of its neighbours. What follows pairs each of the main places a buyer actually considers with the dining reality that comes attached to it.
Canal community, so its dining is club based rather than commercial and there is no restaurant inside the residential canal grid. Most interior canal fingers are two to four miles from any restaurant and are effectively drive only [I]. What PGI buys you is two clusters within eight minutes, Fishermen's Village at three to five and historic downtown at five to eight [I], plus the ability to reach dinner from your own dock, which is the whole PGI proposition compressed into a reservation. Missing: no fine dining on the water inside PGI, no high end sushi, no upscale steakhouse.
The deepest on site dining roster of any community in this batch, and unusually walkable for Charlotte County: Cass Cay and The Trading Post sit 200 to 400 feet apart on Matecumbe Key Road, with Linkside Cafe about a mile away at the country club [I]. Both Cass Cay and Linkside are open to the public, the latter explicitly so [V]. Missing, and it is a real gap: no fine dining inside the gates and none within twenty minutes, no cuisine other than casual American on site, and the nearest restaurant row is 25 minutes in either direction.
Six licensed establishments, 378 seats, and a design premise that makes them walkable. Founder's Square, Crescent B Commons and The Shoppes at Yellow Pine are connected by the trail and cart path network, and the open container policy in the Square means a resident can carry a drink between venues, which is a genuinely distinctive lifestyle detail [V on the policy]. Missing: fine dining, coastal waterfront, and any published opening date for the ten announced B Street food and drink tenants.
Fifteen licensed brick and mortar establishments and 1,626 seats across the three [V, read 2026-09-04]. This is boat country and beach country, and the honest dining answer is that residents range: Placida Road for everyday, Cape Haze and Stump Pass for the water, and Boca Grande twenty minutes away for an occasion [I]. Rum Bay is reached by boat at Marker 9A.
Three licensed dining operations inside the gates totalling 410 seats, run by two different entities [V]. No reciprocal dining roster anywhere. If dining access beyond your own gate matters to you, this corridor is where to ask the question early.
47 licensed brick and mortar establishments and 4,089 seats on the Charlotte side alone [V, read 2026-09-04]. The market is real and the geography is confusing, and the confusion is worth understanding before you buy, because it determines your county taxes, your school assignment and which government answers the phone after a storm.
Charlotte County does not sit in isolation, and the honest way to read every number on this page is against its two neighbours, because a price or a count only means something next to the alternative a buyer is actually weighing it against. This guide sits under our Charlotte County area overview, which covers the housing market, the communities and the county itself rather than its restaurants.
Charlotte is one of three Southwest Florida dining markets and it is the smallest. South of the Boca Grande pass sit the Fort Myers Beach and Sanibel waterfront communities of Lee County, a market close to five times the size on licence count, and just across the pass are the Lee County islands on the other side. Further south, Naples and Marco Island in Collier County, where the filet median runs about $13 higher and grouper about $15 higher than it does here.
Closer to home, living in downtown Punta Gorda puts you inside the county's only genuinely walkable restaurant row, Founder's Square and the rest of Babcock Ranch is its own small dining market by design, and the Fort Myers market to the south is where Burnt Store residents go when they want a restaurant row rather than a marina basin.
Charlotte County has 422 DBPR licensed brick and mortar food service establishments as of the licence extract read 2026-09-04, plus 89 mobile licences and 15 caterer, vending and temporary licences, for 526 in total. Note that this counts licensed food service establishments and not restaurants: a hotel kitchen, a club grill room and a coffee counter all appear, and a grocery deli licensed by a different state agency does not.
Verified dockage in this county is thinner than the tourism listings suggest. Cass Cay at Safe Harbor Burnt Store has published slip and depth data and welcomes visiting boaters with advance arrangements. Rum Bay is reached by boat at Marker 9A off Cape Haze. Riviera Bar and Grill publishes coordinates for its own Punta Gorda Isles canal dockage. Laishley Crab House depends on the City of Punta Gorda's municipal marina, whose published information is internally inconsistent on both size and whether it is open, so call the Dockmaster on (941) 575-0142 before you go. Everything else on a county "on the water" list is a view, not a dock.
Not at a rented slip. As of the most recent read the marina is not renting slips while it awaits hurricane repairs. The fuel dock is open and there is over 300 feet of courtesy dock on the southwest side of the wharf for daily visitors, first come first served. Call ahead before you plan a trip around it, and note that dockside depth runs as low as 3.5 feet at mean low water.
No. Harpoon Harry's Dockside Dining and The Captain's Table both closed on 2025-05-26 and neither has reopened anywhere. Latitude 26 is open in the former Captain's Table space. Castaways, the name attached to the former Harpoon Harry's space, was still listed by the property as coming soon on 2026-09-07 and holds no state food service licence at that address, so do not plan a meal around it yet. Aggregator listings still carry the old names.
Because the county's restaurants publish less than their Lee and Collier counterparts do. Five of the fourteen Charlotte restaurants whose menus we read print a grouper price. Five print Market Price and no number, and five carry no grouper at all. One waterfront menu carries nine Market Price cells while pricing everything else to the penny.
The five printed prices we could find are $32.00 at Rum Bay, $32.00 at Ortigia, $35.50 at Farlow's On The Water, $38.90 at Lock 'N Key in a Rockefeller preparation, and $46.90 at Magnolias on the Bay. Five is too small a sample for a county median and we do not publish one. In Collier County, nine restaurants publish grouper in a $44 to $59 band.
On every benchmark we measured, yes. The Collier filet median runs about $13 above Charlotte's and the Collier grouper median about $15 above. Against Lee County the evidence does not separate them, and the Lee figures we hold are provisional, so we will not claim Charlotte is cheaper than Lee.
The Caesar salad, because it is the only benchmark with a healthy sample in all three counties and no sourcing, sizing or market price confound. A median of $16.00 in Collier, $14.00 in Charlotte and $11.95 in Lee, the Lee figure provisional. That is a 34 percent spread on romaine, parmesan and croutons.
The best of the three counties, on every measure we checked. Charlotte's DBPR licensed food service establishments averaged 0.57 high priority violations per inspection in fiscal 2025-26 against 0.78 in Lee and 0.83 in Collier, with 7.0 percent of visits producing a warning against 13.1 and 13.8 percent, and 4 emergency orders against Lee's 33. We publish the county aggregate and we do not publish any individual restaurant's record.
Both, and they are different measurements. It issued 52 new food service licences in fiscal 2025-26 against 39 or 40 the year before, the only one of the three counties to grow. Over the same period local reporting recorded a net loss of established eateries countywide. New licences went up and long standing independents went out.
Six DBPR licensed food service establishments holding 378 seats, measured twice nineteen days apart with the same result. Five more licensed dining rooms sit just outside that census city in ZIP 33982 and are the golf and club amenities, and those are the town's largest rooms by seat count.
No. Nothing on the ranch runs above the upper casual band and there is no chef driven tasting room. Residents drive 25 to 35 minutes west to downtown Punta Gorda for that. Ten more food and drink tenants have been announced for the B Street plaza and none of them carries a published opening date, so none can be promised.
Yes, the resort's restaurants take outside reservations and walk ins depending on the venue. Watch the days rather than the season: Stretto is dark Monday, The Stadium Club is dark Tuesday and Wednesday, and Vista Point runs Friday to Sunday only as read 2026-08-15. Parties of eight or more carry an automatic 20 percent service charge, and groups of ten or more are booked through the resort's group dining line.
It depends entirely on the date and the counting method, which is why a number without one is meaningless. The resort's own overview page says more than 15, Hilton's release says 16 concepts including a food hall, and Forbes and the Charlotte Sun both reported 20 at the 2023 launch. Three concepts have since closed, two were rebranded and one was added.
The state's number, as of 2026-09-07, is 21 food service licences held by Sunseeker Resort Owner LLC across five Sunseeker Way addresses, 19 with seating and 2 without. That is not 21 places to eat: five are back of house kitchens, three are closed concepts whose licences are still live, and Stretto is licensed twice under two spellings of its name. We publish the licence count with its date and its caveats, and we publish no single "number of restaurants", because no honest one exists.
Both. Englewood is unincorporated and split by the line drawn in 1921: Sarasota County to the north, including Dearborn Street and Olde Englewood Village, and Charlotte County to the south, including most of Placida Road and the Englewood Beach end of Manasota Key. Every address in the area carries an "Englewood, FL" mailing name regardless, which is exactly why buyers get this wrong.
Mostly not. Boca Grande holds 14 DBPR licences on the Lee County side and 2 on the Charlotte side. Gasparilla Island is predominantly Lee County. Charlotte's two Boca Grande licences carry 160 seats between them.
Yes, all three. Together they hold 15 licensed brick and mortar food service establishments and 1,626 licensed seats. Rum Bay Restaurant is licensed to Cape Haze specifically, despite four different geographies circulating for it online.
Yes, and it is the most walkable restaurant district in the three counties. The core is West and East Marion Avenue and Retta Esplanade with the numbered cross streets between them, and you can walk it end to end. What it does not have is high end sushi or an upscale steakhouse, both of which are across the river.
Very little closes outright, which is the opposite of Collier County. The two documented full seasonal closures are The Grill At 1951 in Port Charlotte, reopening September 10 2026, and The Boatyard at Manasota Key, closed with no published return date. The county's actual pattern is contracted weeks, such as Rum Bay closing Mondays from August 17 through September 28.
Almost none of them do. Across 154 documented reciprocal dining arrangements in the region, the only Charlotte County entries are Babcock National and Babcock National at Webbs. Seminole Lakes, Heritage Landing, Riverwood, Kings Gate, Twin Isles, St Andrews South, Burnt Store and Rotonda appear on no dining reciprocal roster we found. The Isles Yacht Club is the exception in the other direction, with full membership reciprocity at more than 700 clubs nationally.
No. The MICHELIN Guide's Southwest Florida coverage reaches Lee and Collier only, and no Charlotte County restaurant appears in it. We would rather say that plainly than manufacture an authority that does not exist.
There is no single correct answer, and that is worth understanding before you drive down there. On 2026-09-07 the property's own Dine page marketed seven names: Village Brewhouse, Center Court, Sunset Beach Club, Leroy's Fish Shack, Latitude 26, The Islands PG and Castaways. The state licence file for 1200 W Retta Esplanade showed eight licences, and the two lists do not line up. Village Brewhouse and Sunset Beach Club share one licence between them. Harborside Coffee and Creamery and Simply Sweet hold licences but are not on the Dine page. Castaways is on the Dine page but holds no licence. We publish the roster and the gap rather than a number.
Not as of 2026-09-07. The property's own Dine page still lists Castaways as coming soon, and the state holds no food service licence for it at 1200 W Retta Esplanade. A restaurant cannot legally serve without one, so treat any listing that shows Castaways as open as out of date. It occupies the former Harpoon Harry's space, which is why aggregators keep resurrecting it.
Yes. The fuel dock is open 7am to 5pm daily even though the marina is not renting slips, and the marina office runs 8am to 4pm daily [read 2026-09-07]. Controlling depth at mean low water is about 7.5 feet, but dockside runs from 7.5 feet down to 3.5 feet, so plan the approach on the shallow number. Harbor Master (941) 575-3000.
The City of Punta Gorda published this rate card on 2026-09-07: $2.50 per foot daily, $11.00 per foot weekly, $17.00 per foot monthly, $16.50 per foot per month semi-annual and $12.00 per foot per month annual, all plus 7% state sales tax. Liveaboard adds $100 per month and electric is $5.00 metered at the slip. There is a 20 foot minimum boat length, and commercial slips add a three month minimum term. Confirm with the Dockmaster on (941) 575-0142 before you rely on it.
We will not tell you either way, because the published record contradicts itself and you deserve to know that. The City publishes a live 2026 rate card and a 142 vessel capacity with no mention of a closure. Waterway Guide titles the same marina "Currently Closed due to Hurricane Damage" and third party summaries put reopening around 2027 to 2028. Same marina, same week, opposite answers. Call the Dockmaster on (941) 575-0142 and ask directly.
The City answers this two different ways on its own website. The Municipal Marina page says capacity for 142 vessels and lists 94 slips, 12 commercial and 42 moorings. The City's Boating page and its facility directory both say 85 boat slips. We have not resolved it because only the City can, and 90% of the slips are required to stay first come, first served under Sovereignty Submerged Land Lease No. 080000095 regardless of the total.
The resort's 25,000 square foot food hall, and the only place in Charlotte County with that many kitchens under one roof. It publishes ten concepts: Kinderhook Raw Bar and Crab Co., Arezzo Craft Pizza Kitchen, Saddle Creek Grill, Taqueria Puerto, Daikon Asian Kitchen, Copper Cask Backyard Beer Garden, Brick and Daisy Cocktail and Wine Bar, Riverfront Roast, Sweet Shine Patisserie and Dessert Bar and Charlotte Parlor Gelatos and Crepes [read 2026-09-07]. Per stall hours are not published, so check at the resort rather than planning around a specific counter.
The honest answer is that the resort has not finished renaming it. Maury's Steak, Seafood and Spirits became Stretto Italian Chophouse in early 2026, and the resort's Eat and Drink page presents that room as Stretto today. But the image on that tile still carries "Maury's dining area" as its alt text and OpenTable still lists Maury's, and the Vista Point menu still sells a Maury's Chopped Salad. We publish only what the resort's own page currently presents, dated 2026-09-07, and we make no claim about which name is legally trading.
Because we count state food service licences, and they count listings. A licence is a public record with an address, a seat count and an inspection history attached, so it can be verified and re-counted on any date. A listing is whatever someone submitted or paid for. The two diverge in both directions: a hotel banquet kitchen holds a licence and is not a restaurant, and a closed concept can keep a live licence for months. The Charlotte County visitor bureau's dining directory is a paid partner directory rather than a census, so no count on this page is taken from it. Every count here names its file and its read date so you can repeat it.
Every count on this page traces to a document you can open yourself. These are the primary files behind the Charlotte County dining figures above: the state licence extract that fixes the establishment and seat counts, the inspection file behind the health record, the new-licence and ownership-change files behind the growth figure, and the weekly emergency order extract that governs which venues we will not recommend. All are public record, linked at the agency that produced them. We do not rehost any of them. Each link points at the issuing agency on that agency's own server, because a copy on a real estate website has no chain of custody and no update path. That also means links move when agencies reorganise their libraries. If you find one dead, tell us and we will re-derive it rather than leave a broken pointer on the page.

McGreevy and Comisar are Jesse McGreevy and Marc Comisar, leading Domain Realty Group in Southwest Florida. We have been selling this market since 2004 and have been Top 1% Real Estate Agents Nationally Since 2008. This page exists because we kept being asked what dining is really like in Charlotte County and kept finding that nobody had counted. So we counted, and we bring the same parcel-level rigor to a question about restaurants that we bring to pricing a waterfront listing.
McGreevy and Comisar have been Top 1% Real Estate Agents Nationally Since 2008, and that standing is the reason a page like this one gets built rather than bought. Being Top 1% Real Estate Agents Nationally Since 2008 buys nothing on its own. What it reflects is twenty years of reading the primary record on a client's behalf, which is the same habit that produced every count above.

A note on source 61. The county visitor bureau's dining directory is a paid partner directory and not a census, so no count anywhere on this page is taken from it. It is cited for venue existence and for its own "on the water" category, which is a view category rather than a dockage category.
Information not available at time of publishing: Fishermen's Village slip count and maximum vessel length, Stump Pass controlling depth, Punta Gorda Isles canal bridge clearances, Riviera Bar and Grill happy hour times and prices, Seminole Lakes Country Club dining room brand name, Heritage Landing formal dining room brand name, per stall hours for the Sunseeker food hall, and opening dates for the ten announced B Street food and beverage tenants at Babcock Ranch. Each of those was worked against the operator's own site, its Google Business Profile, the county and the licence record before being recorded as unavailable.
