The expansion of Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) is well underway, marking one of the most significant infrastructure investments in the region’s history. With Concourse E currently under construction and phased improvements advancing steadily, the project is designed to elevate passenger experience, increase capacity, and support the long-term growth of Southwest Florida.
“Southwest Florida International Airport is the front door to our community and supports travel, business and tourism in our region,” said Steven C. Hennigan, C.M., A.C.E., executive director and CEO of the Lee County Port Authority. His statement reflects the critical importance of RSW as a gateway for both residents and visitors.
A Billion-Dollar Investment in Regional Growth
RSW’s expansion has entered Phase 2 of its terminal redevelopment. This phase features a sweeping 513,000-square-foot addition anchored by the much-anticipated Concourse E, which includes:
Once complete, these improvements will allow the airport to accommodate tens of thousands of additional travelers each week, supporting the region’s booming population and tourism growth.
The entire multi-phase project—estimated at $1.1 billion—broke ground in spring 2025. Construction is expected to span two to four years, with upgrades strategically phased to minimize disruption.
Key Enhancements Travelers Can Expect
The RSW expansion focuses on improving efficiency, comfort, and flow throughout the terminal. Core upgrades include:
