The Village of Estero is taking a significant step toward shaping its future with the launch of a comprehensive Eco-Historic Planning Study focused on revitalizing the underdeveloped “Old Estero” and Koreshan State Park areas. This initiative reflects a forward-thinking approach, one that balances growth and modernization with the preservation of the community’s rich history and natural environment.
The study aims to evaluate the current needs of the area and develop a strategic master plan designed to enhance infrastructure, improve quality of life for residents, and protect Estero’s unique ecological and historical assets. By combining sustainability principles with thoughtful urban planning, the Village envisions transforming Old Estero into a vibrant, inclusive, and resilient community.
Central to this effort is the preservation of Koreshan State Park and the surrounding historic district, which hold cultural and environmental significance for Southwest Florida. The Eco-Historic Planning Study will explore ways to better connect these assets with the broader community while maintaining their integrity for future generations.
This important initiative is made possible through funding from the Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) Program, which supports long term recovery and resilience efforts in communities impacted by natural disasters. With this support, Estero is not only rebuilding, but reimagining, its future.
Community engagement is a key component of the planning process. On March 11, 2026, the Village hosted a public meeting to share updates on the study’s progress and gather valuable feedback from residents and stakeholders. Attendees had the opportunity to review informational posters outlining proposed concepts and strategies, reinforcing the Village’s commitment to transparency and collaboration.
