Fort Myers Beach Pier to Reopen Sooner Than Expected!

SUSAN KOSCHALK February 19, 2025

Good news for Southwest Florida! The iconic Fort Myers Beach Pier, a beloved landmark featured in postcards and advertisements, is set to be rebuilt one year earlier than expected. Originally projected to open in summer 2028, the pier is now slated to reopen in August 2027—a welcome surprise for locals and visitors alike.

Faster Timeline, Same Coastal Charm
Construction is expected to begin in late 2026, with Lee County Commissioner David Mulicka leading the charge to expedite the permitting process. Given his background in marine and demolition construction, Mulicka is leveraging his expertise to help cut down the 16-month review process by the Army Corps of Engineers.

"It's a landmark we all love and miss," Mulicka said, emphasizing the importance of restoring the pier as quickly as possible.

A Bigger & Better Pier
The new Fort Myers Beach Pier will be:
✅ 1,000 feet long (over 70% longer than the previous pier)
✅ 12 feet wide (50% wider for more space to enjoy the views)

This expanded design ensures more room for fishing, sightseeing, and soaking in those unbeatable Gulf Coast sunsets.

Restoring a Southwest Florida Icon
The original pier, along with much of Times Square, was tragically destroyed by Hurricane Ian on September 28, 2022. The loss of this beloved structure deeply impacted the community, making its reconstruction a symbol of resilience and recovery.

With strong community support and a push for accelerated approvals, Southwest Florida is on track to welcome back this historic gem sooner than anticipated.

Stay tuned for updates as we get closer to breaking ground in 2026!
