This has been quite the week for Southwest Florida.
Bracing for Hurricane Milton
This past week brought immense challenges as Hurricane Milton made landfall near Siesta Key as a Category 3 storm. Southwest Florida was hit hard with strong winds, heavy rains, tornadoes, and coastal flooding, especially along the Imperial River and Naples—areas still recovering from Hurricane Ian.
Despite the adversity, the resilience and unity of the SWFL community have shined through. Together, we prepared, endured the storm, and have now begun the recovery process.
Assessing the Damage
Many homes along the coast were flooded, power outages persist, and businesses are assessing the damage to determine when they can reopen. Events for the upcoming weekend have been postponed or canceled, prioritizing safety and recovery efforts.
If you or someone you know needs assistance finding housing, cleaning up property, or navigating storm recovery, please reach out—we are here to help.
Where to Donate and Offer Support
While common hurricane relief items are appreciated, monetary donations are the most effective way to support those in need. Here are several trusted organizations:
Florida Disaster Fund: Official state fund supporting disaster recovery.
American Red Cross: Provides immediate relief for food, shelter, and other urgent needs.
The Humane Society of the U.S.: Helps rescue and care for displaced animals.
Baby2Baby: Supplies diapers, clothing, and necessities for children.
Save the Children: Focuses on children's well-being and education during crises.
World Central Kitchen: Delivers fresh meals to communities impacted by disasters.
Moving Forward
Southwest Florida has a long road to recovery, but our community's spirit remains strong. We will rebuild, together. Stay safe, and don't hesitate to reach out if you need help during this time.
