The Estero Planning and Zoning Board has approved the construction of a new Wawa convenience store in Estero Town Commons, located at the southeast corner of Corkscrew Road and Three Oaks Parkway. This new 5,537-square-foot store will replace the former Ruby Tuesday site and include 12 fueling pumps. With construction underway, the new Wawa is expected to bring a modern, convenient option to the local community, complete with an enhanced landscaping plan and custom architecture that blends seamlessly with the surrounding developments.
This Wawa store will include access points from both Corkscrew Road and Three Oaks Parkway, allowing for easy entry and exit. As part of the development order, the project must adhere to several conditions, such as managing traffic flow and maintaining a harmonious design with neighboring properties. Should traffic congestion arise due to the site, the applicant will be required to implement remedies within 60 days.
Wawa’s original sign height was adjusted from 10 feet to 5 feet due to property limitations, though discussions regarding visibility are ongoing with the village. Enhanced landscaping will include oak, magnolia trees, and palms, in line with the natural aesthetics of the area.
The project was initially presented to the board in October 2022, during which concerns about the Wawa’s fuel canopy design and landscaping were raised. Since then, the project developers, Brightwork Real Estate, have made adjustments to the design, meeting Estero’s development requirements while maintaining the Wawa brand’s signature look. These modifications include a custom-designed, dual-sloped-arched roof for the fueling canopy to comply with the local aesthetic.
The convenience store, located in a well-established retail area anchored by Lowe’s, will enhance the existing services offered to Estero residents. Improvements such as a monument sign, trash enclosures, and new landscaping will further integrate Wawa into the community while offering a convenient stop for fuel, food, and other essentials. The village’s commitment to ensuring that development aligns with the local character is evident in the project’s progress, and residents can look forward to an elevated shopping experience once the store opens.
As this Wawa store takes shape, it represents more than just a new convenience store for the area—it highlights Estero's ongoing development and its focus on creating accessible, well-designed commercial spaces that serve the community's growing needs.
