In a significant move for Lee County, commissioners approved the expansive Kingston Project in June 2022. Initially proposed as a limestone rock mine, the development by Corkscrew Grove Limited Partnership is set to transform over 6,000 acres of land along Corkscrew Road into a vibrant community known as The Kingston Project.
Key Features of The Kingston Project:
Scope: Spanning from south of Corkscrew Rd. to SR-82, the development will encompass 10,000 dwelling units, a 240-unit hotel, and 700,000 square feet of commercial space.
Environmental Restoration: A substantial portion of the project, totaling 3,287 acres, will be dedicated to restoration, conservation, and flow-way, highlighting the commitment to environmental stewardship.
Infrastructure Investment: Cameratta Companies, the developer behind the project, will fund essential infrastructure like the spine road within the complex, contributing to water runoff management and wildlife preservation.
Educational Facilities: As part of the project, Cameratta has pledged to build a K-8 school, addressing the community's educational needs.
Addressing Environmental Concerns:
The development's location within a Density Reduction/Groundwater Resource area necessitates stringent adherence to environmental regulations. Cameratta has assured the incorporation of necessary safeguards to mitigate water runoff and environmental impact.
Infrastructure Enhancements:
The spine road and wildlife crossing, with estimated costs of $40+ million and $2 million, respectively, demonstrate the developer's commitment to enhancing local infrastructure.
Collaboration with authorities like the Lee County Metropolitan Planning Organization and Department of Transportation ensures seamless integration with existing road networks and future expansion plans.
Community Impact and Future Prospects:
While the project promises economic benefits and improved infrastructure, concerns about increased traffic along East Corkscrew Road remain.
Construction is anticipated to commence in 2025, marking the beginning of a transformative journey for the area.
The Kingston Project represents a significant milestone in Lee County's development landscape, balancing economic growth with environmental preservation and community well-being. As progress unfolds, stakeholders eagerly anticipate the realization of this ambitious vision for the region's future. Learn MORE.
